John has written about sports for four decades, for outlets including the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Toledo Blade, St. Petersburg Times, Austin American-Statesman, Lexington Herald-Leader, Booth Newspapers, Youngstown Vindicator, Austin Villager, ESPN's Andscape (formerly the Undefeated) and CBS Sportsline. He has covered the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, University of Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Florida State and Miami. He attended dozens of major sporting events, including 11 NBA Finals, six Final Fours and seven Super Bowls, including Super Bowl XLIII in which Edgerrin James participated, as well as the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

John's work has garnered awards from Associated Press Sports Editors, Society of Professional Journalists (Green Eyeshade), Florida Sportswriters, Ohio Associated Press and Keystone Media Awards.
